Cut Paper Assemblages: Trains of Thought

These cut paper assemblages are constructed entirely from the set, puppets, and props of a stop-motion short film commissioned by The Poulenc Trio in 2016. A companion piece for an original music composition by Viet Cuong called "Trains of Thought", the video was inspired by vintage New Yorker magazine covers, and these playful wall sculptures evoke both the whimsy and lyricism of the music, and the sweetness of another time and place.

These little cut paper vignettes were made with colored and painted papers and built into handmade shadow boxes. There are only a few of these: these aren't a cookie cutter template that we'll make hundreds of. Each one is unique and made with the original pieces from a stop-action animation. We're not making these any more, this is it! These are totally one-of-a-kind.

They’re all framed in shadow boxes. The frame shows natural wood grain with a mahogany color stain.
